Consuming One Another

“For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.  For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.  But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.” —Galatians 5:13-15
One of the great doctrines of the Reformed Faith is the catholic Church.  This universal unity is for the protection of the saints against those who would spy out our liberty and seek to bring us into bondage.  The not-so-funny thing is these workers of iniquity actually use our liberty against us.

Instead of true liberty, which is the liberty to do what is right, they impose a false liberty of licentiousness or a liberty to do that which is evil.

This fleshly liberty is for the purpose of devouring the Church.  Christian liberty is designed to serve one another in provoking God’s people to love and good works.

One of the tools used by the cannibalistic connoisseurs is division.

“For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?” —1 Corinthians 3:3

There are different types of division—one carnal and the other godly.

Godly division is based upon the heresies of doctrine and practice that God’s people are not to have fellowship with.  Examples of this include the false Christological views of the Gnostics and Arians as found in 2 John 1:9-11 or the fornication found within the Corinthian church in 1 Corinthians 5:1-6.

Carnal division is the setting up of commandments and doctrines of men or even an unscriptural emphasis on certain doctrines and practices that demand love and tolerance.  When we make dietary practices (Romans 12) or indifferent religious customs (Acts) obligatory upon all, we add to the Word of God.

Carnal divisions provoke envy and strife that leads to the devouring of the body of Christ.  These schisms of men’s pet peeves are to be avoided just like any other heretical doctrine or practice.

“Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.” —Romans 16:17

Adding to the Word of God does not make us more holy or doctrinally inclined but displays the shallowness and carnality of our faith.  Christian faith is established on the Word of God and not the whims, presuppositions or opinions of men.

These unnecessary and destructive divisions have done more to destroy the Church in America than all the plots of the wicked.  We have lost true faith and practice because we have abandoned the true faith and established our own righteousness through the commandments and traditions of men.  If we are to see a revival in America there must be a restoration of the true faith.

This means we must recover and properly define the Christian Faith.  This is where our unity comes from and only in this Faith can we begin to advance Christ’s Holy Church.

This message is beginning to bring on an onslaught of accusations against us.  But do not be deceived, the cyber busybodies are about their father’s business just as we should be about our Father’s Kingdom.  We are in a battle for the true faith once delivered to the saints.  In this Faith we shall not be moved.

Therefore, we will not remove the ancient landmarks (Proverbs 22:28).  We will stand fast upon the Word of God and the historic Church.

The slanderous lies will only increase against those who seek to restore the house of the Lord and the true worship of the Triune God.  So, study to show yourself approved lest you are deceived by these malicious manipulators of our faith and liberty.
