The Gates of Hell shall not Prevail

On October 12, 2014, due to the graciousness of our Lord, we held our first service in our new building.  The Lord opened up a golden opportunity for us to begin holding services in this historic church building in Morgan County, Indiana.

In our first service, our text was from Matthew 16:18 where Jesus told Simon Barjona, "That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."

Today, most Christians live in despair and discouragement no longer believing the promises of God found in Holy Writ.  Because of our failures and the consequences of them, there is a lack of faith in the power of Christ and His Word.  Instead of repenting and turning back to God we blame Him for our misery.

In this message, Christ's sovereignty and power are set forth in His promise of victory.  The problem is not the gospel of victory but our disobedience.  The Church has lost its power and respect because we are reaping God's chastisement on a disobedient people.  However, this does not mean that His promises are ineffectual.  God will bring His purposes to pass as Christ makes His enemies His footstool.

Instead of murmuring and complaining, the Church must draw near to God in faith and repentance.  Only then will we be able to go forth to advance Christ's kingdom trusting in the One whom all power and authority has been granted in heaven and on earth.
