CHRIST OR CHAOS

"The choice before us is plain: Christ or chaos, conviction or compromise, discipline or disintegration. I am rather tired of hearing about our rights and privileges as American citizens. The time is come—it is now—when we ought to hear about the duties and responsibilities of our citizenship. America’s future depends upon her accepting and demonstrating God’s government."

These words, spoken by U.S. Senate Chaplain Peter Marshall on January 13, 1947, still echo with relevance today. President Ronald Reagan also warned us, saying, "If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a nation gone under." In the face of a deconstructing Western civilization, it is time for us to confront the stark choice before us: Christ or chaos.
Western Christendom, once a beacon of Christian values, has undergone a profound transformation. What was once a society rooted in the teachings of the Bible and the historic Christian faith is now defined as "Woke Postmodernism," a worldview that rejects objective truth and embraces relativism. Both Western Europe, the birthplace of the Reformation, and America have deconstructed from Christian societies into postmodern societies that are now becoming increasingly pagan. This descent into chaos is precisely what the biblical warnings in Deuteronomy 28 and Leviticus 26 sought to prevent: "The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God” (Psalm 9:17).
As we continue to reject Christ and embrace the alluring promises of secularism, we must pause and reflect on the outcomes of our choices. How is this path of self-centeredness, moral relativism, and the pursuit of individual desires working out for us? Are we truly finding the fulfillment, peace, and purpose we long for, or are we left with a hollow emptiness that no amount of worldly pursuits can fill? The increasing chaos, division, and moral decay in our societies should serve as a stark reminder that our rejection of Christ and acceptance of secularism is not yielding the desired outcomes. It is time to reevaluate our choices, realign our hearts with the truth of God's Word, and rediscover the transformative power and eternal significance found in embracing Christ as our Savior, Lord, and King.
Amidst this chaos, there is a choice, and that choice is Jesus Christ. The gospel of Jesus Christ offers hope, redemption, and salvation to all who believe. Jesus is not merely a historical figure or a moral teacher; He is the Savior, Priest, Prophet, Lord, and King. To submit to Jesus Christ as King of kings and Lord of lords is to acknowledge His authority over every aspect of our lives, including our civic responsibilities. A nation submitted to Christ is marked by righteousness, justice, and compassion, for "righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34).
The alternative to Christ is chaos, which manifests as deconstruction inevitably leading to destruction. Deconstruction dismantles faith, truth, and love, the very foundations of a thriving society. When faith is dismantled, Christian doctrine and practice are abandoned, and moral relativism takes its place. When truth is dismantled, authority is undermined, and every individual becomes a law unto themselves. When love is dismantled, self-sacrifice and service are replaced with selfishness and individualism. The rejection of Christ is a choice for chaos, a rejection of the order, purpose, and divine design that Christ offers.
In the face of the choice between Christ and chaos, it is of utmost importance that we cultivate a healthy fear of God. The writer of Hebrews warns us, "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God." This fear is not just a terror or dread, but a profound reverence and awe for the Almighty Creator. It is an understanding that God is holy, just, and righteous, and that we are accountable to Him for our thoughts, words, and actions.
In a world that often promotes self-centeredness, moral relativism, and the rejection of absolute truth, the fear of God serves as a compass to guide us back to a place of humility, obedience, and reverence. It reminds us that our choices and behaviors have consequences, not only in this life but also in the life to come. It compels us to reflect on the weightiness of our decisions and the impact they may have on our relationship with God and the world around us.
Thomas Jefferson, one of the founding fathers of the United States, also recognized the fearfulness of God's justice. He expressed his concern, saying, "Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that his justice cannot sleep forever." Jefferson understood that a nation cannot ignore the moral principles and standards established by God without facing the consequences of its actions. His words serve as a sharp reminder that our nation's future is completely tied to our faithfulness and obedience to God.
When we embrace a healthy fear of God, we come to understand the depth and significance of His justice and righteousness. We realize that His standards are not temporal or burdensome, but rather they stand as timeless pillars of truth, morality, and justice. In a world where moral relativism and subjective truths often prevail, the fear of God anchors us to an unchanging and unwavering foundation.
However, this fear does not leave us paralyzed with terror or anxiety, but rather it compels us to align our lives with God's will. It ignites a desire within us to live in harmony with His divine purpose. As we encounter the majestic holiness of God, we are humbled by His perfection and sovereignty. In this humility, we recognize that our human wisdom and desires pale in comparison to the wisdom and goodness of God.
The fear of God beckons us to surrender our own selfish ambitions and align our hearts with His. It challenges us to let go of our own desires and seek after His desires for us. It prompts us to relinquish our own limited understanding and embrace His infinite wisdom. It invites us to walk in obedience, knowing that His commandments are not restrictive but are true demonstrations of freedom and fulfillment.
When we live in harmony with God's will, we experience the blessings of His glory and purpose. We find that His precepts are not burdensome, but instead they guide us toward abundant and purposeful lives. Embracing the fear of God enables us to navigate through the complexities of life with clarity and discernment, rooted in His eternal truths.
Furthermore, the fear of God directs us to seek justice and righteousness in our interactions with others. We are moved to extend compassion, kindness, and fairness, reflecting the character of our just and righteous God. This fear compels us to stand up against injustice, to advocate for the helpless and oppressed, and to work towards a society that upholds the dignity and right to life for both the unborn and the aged alike.
Ultimately, the fear of God is a transformative force that shapes every aspect of our lives. It affects our thoughts, attitudes, and actions. It guides our decisions, relationships, and pursuits. It instills in us a reverence and awe for God, inspiring us to live as faithful and obedient followers of Christ.
The urgency of the hour calls for us to take decisive action. It is time for us to humbly bow before God, acknowledging our shortcomings and repenting of our sins. We must turn away from the paths of disobedience, self-centeredness, and moral relativism that have led us astray. The promise of 2 Chronicles 7:14 shines brightly before us, offering hope and restoration: "If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."
This promise is not a mere platitude; it is a divine invitation to come before the throne of grace, seeking forgiveness and restoration. God stands ready to extend His mercy and grace to a repentant people. He longs to heal our land, to mend the brokenness, and to restore the moral fabric of society. But the choice lies before us. We must abandon the path of chaos and embrace the transformative power of Christ.
To choose Christ means to surrender our lives fully to Him, embracing His lordship and kingship in every sphere of our existence. As followers of Jesus, we are not called to be passive spectators in the world but active participants, engaging with the world around us, and living out our faith in practical ways. We must embody the duties and responsibilities of the faith we profess as real followers of Christ, seeking to impact our community, nation, and the world for His glory.
Rebuilding our society on the solid foundation of God's Word requires a commitment to righteousness, truth, and love. We must uphold the unchanging principles and values found in Scripture, recognizing that they provide the surest guide for a just and flourishing society. Righteousness, rooted in God's standards of justice and morality, becomes the standard by which we measure our actions and policies. Truth, anchored in the person of Jesus Christ, becomes the bedrock upon which we build our institutions and relationships. Love, exemplified in the sacrificial love of Christ, becomes the driving force behind our interactions and service to others.
By believing in Christ and His Word, we become recipients of a divine power that can transform hearts, mend relationships, and restore a sense of purpose and direction in our lives and society. It is through the redemptive work of Christ that we can find true healing, reconciliation, and renewal. The choice is clear: Christ or chaos. Will we choose the narrow path that leads to life, or will we continue down the broad road of deconstruction, disintegration, and ultimately destruction?
Let us rise up, unashamed and uncompromising, as ambassadors of Christ in a world desperate for hope and truth. Let us take up the call to humble ourselves, repent of our sins, and turn back to God. By doing so, we receive His forgiveness, grace, and transforming power. And as we bow to Christ and surrender to His reign in our lives, we can participate in the divine work of healing and restoration, becoming agents of change in our community.
The time is now. The choice is ours. Will we choose Christ or chaos? Let us stand firm, guided by the timeless truths of God's Word, and journey towards a society where righteousness, truth, and love reign supreme. In doing so, we can hope to see our land healed, restored, and flourishing under the benevolent and righteous reign of Christ. May our decision be one of conviction, courage, and unwavering faith. The choice is clear. Choose Christ.
