Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. 14 Let all that you do be done with love.  I urge you, brethren—you know the household of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have devoted themselves to the ministry of the saints—that you also submit to such, and to everyone who works and labors with us. –1 Corinthians 16:13-16
The apostle Paul's exhortation in 1 Corinthians 16:13-16 calls us to a life of devotion. It challenges us to examine the depth of our commitment to Christ, to the Church as instituted by Him, and to the various aspects of church life and ministry. It implores us to reflect on our devotion and consider the following:
Are You Devoted to Christ?

Being devoted to Christ means that He is the center of our lives. It involves surrendering our will to His, obeying His teachings, and following Him wholeheartedly. It is a deep, personal relationship with our Savior, marked by love, trust, and allegiance.

Are You Devoted to the Church as Instituted by Christ?

Devotion to the Church as instituted by Christ means recognizing its divine origin and purpose. It involves valuing the Church as the chosen instrument of God's redemptive work, established by Christ Himself. It includes honoring its leadership, participating in its ordinances, and supporting its mission.

Are You Devoted to the Church as the Body of Christ?

The Church is not merely an organization but a living organism—a spiritual body where believers are united in Christ. Being devoted to the Church as the Body of Christ means embracing our interconnectedness with fellow believers, supporting one another, and using our gifts and talents for the edification and growth of the body.

Are You Devoted to the Church as the Assembly of the Saints?

Devotion to the Church as the assembly of the saints encompasses our commitment to gathering together as a community of believers. It involves prioritizing regular participation in corporate worship, fellowship, and the sacraments. It is through these gatherings that we strengthen our faith, receive teaching, and encourage one another.

Are You Devoted to the Worship of the Church?

Being devoted to the worship of the Church means approaching worship with reverence, awe, and wholehearted engagement. It involves active participation in congregational singing, prayer, Scripture reading, and the preaching of God's Word. It is through worship that we express our adoration, gratitude, and surrender to God.

Are You Devoted to the Ministry of the Church?

Devotion to the ministry of the Church encompasses a willingness to serve others, bearing one another's burdens, and using our gifts for the benefit of the body. It involves being actively engaged in ministries of compassion, discipleship, evangelism, and missions. It is through serving others that we reflect the love and servant-heartedness of Christ.

In conclusion, the call to devotion in 1 Corinthians 16:13-16 prompts us to assess the sincerity and depth of our commitment to Christ and His Church. It urges us to be fully engaged in every aspect of our faith, embracing a life of wholehearted devotion to Christ, His Church, and His purposes in the world. May we respond to this call with a resounding "Yes" and live lives marked by unwavering dedication and love for our Lord and His Church.
