The Honorable John Young
Indiana House of Representatives
200 W. Washington St.
Indianapolis, IN 46204-2797

July 21, 2022

Dear Representative Young,

Thank you for your service to God and the people of the State of Indiana.

God has blessed the great state of Indiana abundantly for over 206 years. However, it does not take much discernment to see that we have increasingly come under God's judgment because of our many sins. Our society has been deconstructing with such acceleration that all hope seemed lost.
Despite this, God has extended His mercy to us by giving us this opportunity to be salt amid corruption and light amid the darkness. Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine this opportunity to bear fruit in keeping with our professed repentance (Matthew 3:8) concerning abortion.

In the total collapse of Western Christendom, God has given us a window of grace in this brief moment. We pray that it is a moment where God will open our eyes and grant us a little reviving as He did to Ezra and the remnant of Israel.
In His infinite wisdom, the Triune God instituted the Church, the state, and the family to govern man. Whatever our station in life, be it the Governor of a great state like this or the pastor of a small church in Morgan County, God has brought us to the kingdom for such a time as this.

Civil rulers are ministers of God according to His Word. Because civil government bears the authority of God, Christian citizens are to be subject to the higher powers and honor civil rulers according to Romans 13, obey civil rulers as in Titus 3, and pray for civil rulers in the hope "that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence" in 1 Timothy 2.

Because your office is sacred and comes from God, we implore you to exercise righteous authority and power in subjection to God (Romans 13). God has given you this power of the sword to restrain evil and promote what is good. Is there anything more detestable and vile as killing little unborn babies? The bloodshed runs deep in our state through abortion. We have become a bloodthirsty people making a mockery of God and His holiness.

And yet, here we are with an opportunity to do something meaningful to end abortion in Indiana. Today is our moment to show the Lord that the decades of confessing our sin, praying, petitioning, interceeding, and attending vigils and rallies were not a facade. God has allowed us to prove that the faith we have professed these many years is not dead (James 2:20).

Yet, these opportunities are brief. We may never get another chance in the decades to come. What are we going to do with this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity? Will we stand firm and seek justice for the unborn or allow the bloodshed to continue?

We plead with you in the name of Jesus Christ to stand in the gap for those who cannot stand for themselves. You are the last line of defense for them and us as a people. Today is our opportunity to rescue the perishing. We can no longer blame the Supreme Court and abdicate our duty and responsibility because the lives of future unborn children are now in our hands.

Specifically, we are petitioning you and the Indiana General Assembly to send Governor Holcomb a bill that completely bans abortion in this state. Nothing else will do! The choice before us is life or death.

For the sake of us all, I pray that the state of Indiana will "cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice, rebuke the oppressor; defend the fatherless, and plead for the widow" (Isaiah 1:16b-17). If we do not, we will reap what we have sown, and for the rest of our days, we will remember this was our opportunity.

We are confident that you want to see Indiana prosper under the blessings of Almighty God once again. Yet, this is only possible if we meant what we said when we quoted 2 Chronicles 7:14 declaring that we were humbling ourselves, praying and seeking God's face, and turning from our wicked ways. We have stated this over and over again for the last 50 years. Today is our moment of truth.

May the Lord not say of us as was said of Old Testament Israel in Ezekiel 22:30-31.

"'So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one. Therefore I have poured out My indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath; and I have recompensed their deeds on their own heads,' says the Lord God."

May the Lord our God be gracious and bless us with repentance, revival, and reformation.

Respectfully,

The Session of Holy Trinity Reformed Church
Camby, Indiana
